The Wrestler Who Came Out as a Senior
Greg Teufel was not the kind of wrestler college coaches chase. He didn't grow up on a mat. He wasn't big. He was, by every account, a kid who walked into the La Salle High wrestling room as a first-year varsity candidate, worked harder than anyone else, and ended the season wrestling in the PCL championship match against North Catholic.
Michael Gavin, La Salle class of 2001, remembered him this way: "The next time I talked to Greg again was when he came out for the La Salle wrestling team, and that's where I got to know him very well."
Not very big, but muscular with blonde facial hair covering every inch of his face. Although he wasn't very big, he would run through a wall for you. His heart and determination was unmatched.
The Competitor and the Friend
Everyone who wrote in after his death used the same two words about him: competitive and kind. They were not in tension. They were part of the same kid.
Greg was an outstanding kid and was nothing like any other person I met. He was passionate about everything he did.
Greg was always there for everyone and always had a positive attitude about everything. He was the most competitive wrestler during his matches, but at the same time he was one of the nicest kids I have known.
