The Six-in-a-Row Dynasty
Dennis Seddon took over the Roman Catholic basketball program in 1987, inheriting a dynasty that Speedy Morris had built across 14 seasons in the 1960s and 1970s. Over the next 22 seasons, Seddon extended it into one of the longest championship runs in Catholic League history.
The crown jewel of his tenure was a run of six consecutive Catholic League championships from 1989 through 1994. That stretch alone would have put him on any short list of the greatest Catholic League basketball coaches ever. He kept going. By the time he stepped down in 2008, his total had reached 10 Catholic League championships — the most by any coach in Catholic League history.
Last year, somebody put the article where I was chosen Coach of the Year on the bulletin board. That motivated the kids to go win another championship.
