Philadelphia has a new king of the recruiting world.
Jett Harrison, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver out of St. Joseph's Prep, has been named the No. 1 overall player in the initial 2028 Rivals300 rankings — earning five-star status and cementing himself as the highest-rated recruit the city of Philadelphia has ever produced. That distinction had long belonged to Sharrif Floyd, the dominant defensive tackle out of George Washington High School who was ranked No. 3 nationally in the Class of 2010. Floyd went on to earn All-American honors at Florida and was a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings. Harrison has now blown past that mark, and he's only a sophomore.
The Harrison bloodline speaks for itself. Jett's father, Marvin Harrison Sr., is a Pro Football Hall of Famer — 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, 1,102 receptions, 14,580 yards, 128 touchdowns, six-time All-Pro, eight-time Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl XLI champion.
Big brother Marvin Harrison Jr. became a unanimous All-American at Ohio State and a top-five pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. MHJ's take on his little brother? "He's definitely more talented than I ever was at that age. It's gonna be very scary to see how he progresses."
Marvin Sr. echoed the sentiment: "That is unbelievable. The will to win — losing is not an option. That's what makes him who he is today."
As a freshman in 2024, Harrison hauled in 10 touchdown receptions — including a score in the PIAA 6A State Championship — as the Hawks captured the state title, earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors. His sophomore season raised the bar further, with approximately 15 receiving touchdowns highlighted by a four-score explosion against Baltimore powerhouse St. Frances Academy, the eventual Overtime Nationals champions.
St. Frances head coach Messay Hailemariam didn't mince words: "He is unbelievable. He is completely the real deal." Hailemariam also revealed that Alabama five-star safety signee Jireh Edwards told him Harrison "is going to be one of the best players to touch a high school football field."
Rivals' Director of Scouting Charles Power added the kicker: "At this point in the process, Jett is tracking ahead of where his brother was entering the junior season."
Since 2000, Pennsylvania has produced 22 five-star recruits and New Jersey has produced its own share of elite talent. Here's how Harrison stacks up against the best this region has ever seen:
Rashan Gary, DE — Paramus Catholic (NJ), Class of 2016 — The No. 1 overall recruit nationally. Starred at Michigan, drafted 12th overall by the Green Bay Packers. Harrison is the first player since Gary to sit atop the national rankings from this region.
Micah Parsons, LB — Harrisburg (PA), Class of 2018 — Ranked No. 5 nationally. Stayed home at Penn State, became the 12th overall pick, and is now one of the NFL's most dominant defenders with the Dallas Cowboys.
Julian Fleming, WR — Southern Columbia (PA), Class of 2020 — Ranked No. 1 overall by ESPN, No. 2 by 247Sports. The highest-ranked Pennsylvania player in the modern era before Harrison. Signed with Ohio State.
Terrelle Pryor, QB — Jeannette (PA), Class of 2008 — Ranked No. 2 nationally. Chose Ohio State over Penn State in one of the most dramatic recruitments in state history.
D'Andre Swift, RB — St. Joseph's Prep (PA), Class of 2017 — Harrison's predecessor at the Prep. A five-star who starred at Georgia and became a second-round NFL Draft pick.
Sharrif Floyd, DT — George Washington (PA), Class of 2010 — The previous highest-rated Philadelphia recruit at No. 3 nationally. All-American at Florida, first-round NFL Draft pick.
Jabrill Peppers, S — Paramus Catholic (NJ), Class of 2014 — Ranked No. 2 overall by ESPN. Starred at Michigan and has enjoyed a long NFL career.
Harrison now sits above them all.
Despite being just a sophomore, Harrison already holds offers from Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Syracuse, Duke, Nebraska, Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Miami. The Buckeye connection runs deep through big brother's legacy in Columbus, and Harrison is scheduled to visit Ohio State this weekend.
With two full seasons still ahead at St. Joseph's Prep, the offer list will only grow. All eyes in Philadelphia will be watching to see what Jett Harrison does next — and if his trajectory holds, we could be looking at one of the most decorated high school careers in Pennsylvania history.
Philadelphia has never seen a prospect like this. And the best is yet to come.
