Fuller Brushes Away Record On Sept. 17, 2011, vs. Chestnut Hill Academy, Roman Catholic WR William Fuller , a 6-1, 160-pound junior, broke the long-standing city
record for receiving yards in a game. Fuller posted 276 (and two TDs) on 10
catches, bettering 252 by Cardinal O'Hara's Don Clune in 1969. Clune went on to star at Penn, then
play in the NFL. |

On the game's very first play, Fuller ran a
streak, gathered in the perfectly thrown ball from classmate Michael Keir and sped to an 85-yard TD. His last catch ,
on a quick out that turned into quite the adventure ,
covered 74 yards all the way to the 1. Yes, the 1. The clock showed 5:55
remaining in the fourth quarter and sr. RB Marcus Kelly scored two plays later. In
order, Fuller's catches netted 85, 9, 27, 3, 24, 18, 28, 1, 7 and 74 yards. Of course, there was a mix of plays
from fades to streaks to comebacks, etc. He soared. He stretched. He snatched. He everythinged. The
1-yarder was a left-corner fade on the final play
of the first half, and it produced a touchdown. Also in this game, Keir broke Roman's school record for passing
yards in a game, with 332; Jim McGeehan had thrown for 288 in 1988. Keir went 15-for-19. The members of Roman's offense: QB: Michael Keir RB: Marcus Kelly FB: Brett Pellicciotti, Patrick McCourt TE: Jon Upchurch WR: William Fuller, Taishan Tucker, William Howell, Jake
Illingworth T: Tyrone Brown, Steven Noel, Gaetano Podagrosi G: Collin Shields, Roberto Harris-Barron C: Michael Joyce
