(28) and Leon "Squeek" Rollins (17) evenly split six of Mansion's 10 treys.
Tyreek Jackson led Audenried with 18 points. Bok 73, Parkway 54: Lamont Butler (23, six rebounds) and
Marquise Salley (20) paced Bok. For Parkway, Ishmawiyl McFadden scored 14 points while
Larz Jeter and Tyrone Palmer managed 13 apiece. Class A Freire 82, Bodine 48: Lavine Grimes bulled for 31
points while Dwayne "Mister" Johnson mixed 10 points, 10 assists and three
steals. Tyree Griffin (19) led Bodine. Prep Charter 62, Masterman 28: Haven Wroten paced the romp
with 11 points and Rodney Green grabbed 14 rebonuds. Pierre Milburn (12) led Masterman. ROUND OF 16 Class AAAA Central 79, Franklin 64: Scott Rodgers, a Drexel
signee, hit two treys en route to 29 points and came up with eight steals as well. Kenny
St. George (14), Marcus Morris, Andre Woodlin (12 each) and Rashiid Coleman (10) also
reached double figures. Andre "Aynee" Glover (28) topped Franklin. University City 65, Washington 60: In what could have been
his final game, Anthony Morrison (21) lifted his career total to 1,001 points and had 11
in a 22-7 second quarter. Ervin Jordan added eight points, nine rebounds, and Aaron
Stephens dished six assists. Washington's Corey White (27) buried seven treys. Frankford 58, Bartram 48: Lewis Leonard scored 10 of his 20
points in a 19-4 second quarter. Maurice Miller and Kenny Spotwood added 11 points apiece.
Lamont Brown had 10. Ryan Smith added six assists and three steals. Marquise Carrington
and Andrew Randall scored 11 apiece for Bartram. Gratz 38, Dobbins 35: Ameer Ali (10 points, nine boards) and
Syheem Perkins (nine, 12) led the Bulldogs in the slow-paced game. Dobbins' Kassim Green
mixed 15 points and six rebounds. Class A Final Prep Charter 86, Freire Charter 62: Rodney Green
made the Huskies' first appearance in a regular playoff a special occasion, shooting
17-for-19 en route to a school record 36 points. He made eight straight shots to open the
game, then finished with nine straight. Big help also came from sophomore twins Marcus
Morris (13 points) and Markieff Morris (14 rebounds, five blocks). Jason Dogan lent 14
points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals to the cause. Freire's Lavine Grimes
bulled for 23 points, 14 boards. Class AAA Final Bok 58, Straw. Mansion 57: Cory Moultrie (20
points, seven assists) banked home a buzzer-beater from 25 feet as the visiting Wildcats
won a regular playoff for only the third time in the program's 60-year Pub history. Lamont
Butler scored 21 points. Gary Harris and Marquise Salley evenly split 20 rebounds. For
Mansion, the leaders were John Brooks (21, eight boards) and Leon "Squeek"
Rollins (14, 11, six assists). Class AA Franklin LC 85, Delaware Valley 59: The Bobcats'
guards fueled the win. Malcolm Eleby had 22 points and 13 assists while Brandon Williams
totaled 24 points (four treys) and seven steals. DV's Clifford Copper scored 28 points. Eng. and Science 52, Imhotep Charter 33: Andre Murphy scored
18 points and Rodney Norris claimed 11 rebounds. Hanif Nixon (12) led Imhotep. QUARTERFINALS Class AAAA Semifinals Central 67, University City 48: Andre Woodlin
scored nine of his 19 points (8-for-11 field) in a 21-9 fourth quarter as the Lancers
turned a close game into a comfortable win. He also had five steals. Scott Rodgers used a
11-for-13 showing at the line to score 26 points. Lamar Williams posted eight rebounds and
five assists off the bench. Anthony Morrison (15) was the only Jaguar to score in double
figures. Frankford 52, Gratz 45: Lewis Leonard totaled 24 points and
eight rebounds and his three consecutive treys helped the Pioneers storm from a 38-38 tie
to a 48-40 lead. Maurice Miller added 12 points, two assists and a clinching steal and
Ryan Smith, mostly thanks to Leonard's marksmanship, had five of his seven assists in the
fourth quarter. For Gratz, which failed to reach the semis for only the second time in 17
seasons, Ameer Ali had 14 points and seven boards. The Bulldogs shot 17-for-33, but were
guilty of 24 turnovers. Class AA Final Eng. and Science 62, Franklin LC 53: After making a
trey to start the game, then missing his next six shots, Marquis Coates (11) drained
another three-ball to give the Engineers a 52-49 lead and then went 5-for-6 at the line to
help keep FLC at bay. Darrell Mills (17, 7-for-7 floor), Andre Murphy (15) and Rodney
Norris (11, nine boards) also scored in double figures. FLC's leaders were Brandon
Williams (22) and Malcolm Eleby (14, six assists). Prep Charter 80, Bok 69: At a neutral site, Philadelphia
Community, the Class A champs knocked off the Class AAA titlists by placing five guys in
double figures and winning the rebound battle, 29-16. Markieff Morris had 18 points and
nine boards. His twin, Marcus, had 11 points. Haven Wroten added 15 points and 10 boards.
Bok's Marquise Salley shot 11-for-19 en route to 25 points while Lamont Butler and Cory
Moultrie added 15 apiece. SEMIFINALS (At Saint Joseph's University) Class AAAA Final Central 54, Frankford 43: The Lancers, devoid of a
title since 1932, claimed a spot in the final for the first time since 1955 as Scott
Rodgers totaled 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. He had just three
points at halftime, but Central was ahead by 10. Kenny St. George added seven points,
seven rebounds and three assists and Marcus Morris shot 5-for-5 for 10 points. For
Frankford, Lewis Leonard (uncommonly off at 4-for-22) and Kenny Spotwood scored 12 points
apiece. Leonard added 11 rebounds. Prep Charter 69, Eng. and Science 55: PC, a fourth-year
member and one of the PL's smallest schools (about 250 boys), cruised to victory as Rodney
Green (7-for-9, 19), Jason Dogan (14) and Markieff Morris (13) scored in double figures.
Morris, a 6-8 soph, added 12 rebounds. His identical twin, 6-7 Marcus, had seven points
and three assists. Fred Gresham (16) and Rodney Norris (12) scored in double digits for
E&S and Marquis Coates grabbed 10 rebounds. FINAL (At Temple's Liacouras Center) Central 52, Prep Charter 46: The Lancers, coached
by '71 grad Haviland Harper, won their first title since 1932 the hard way, spotting PC a
10-0 lead in the first 2 1/2 minutes. They scrapped a press and crawled back with tough
man-to-man defense, forcing the Huskies into 34 turnovers. Game MVP Scott Rodgers totaled
15 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals and he contributed a spectacular
sequence -- flying block at one end, layup at the other -- to provide mid-second-quarter
momentum. The Lancers scored the last basket of the half on Andre Woodlin's layup to take
a 24-22 lead and scored rang up seven more points in the first 47 seconds of the third
quarter. Woodlin had 14 points, seven boards, three steals. Led by Rodney Green (20
points, seven rebounds), PC cut Central's lead to 47-46. Kenny St. George, 1-for-12 to
that point, drove from the right corner for a dipsy-doodle layup at 0:40. PC's next two
possessions resulted in turnovers while Rodgers went 2-for-4 at the line. Green missed a
trey, St. George rebounded and finalized the scoring at 8.6 with a free throw. Green, who
won game sportsmanship honors, shot an astounding 81 percent from the floor (39-for-48, 86
total points) in PC's four playoff games. PC, a fourth-year Pub member, was the first
charter school to reach the final.
State Playoffs
CLASS AAA First Round At Germantown Phoenixville 83, Bok 71: The Wildcats were outrebounded,
42-27, and played poor interior defense as Phoenixville raced to a 45-26
halftime lead and eventually rolled to a 28-point pad. Playing on a severely
sprained ankle, Marquise Salley had to settle for 18 points. His 17-foot,
left-wing jumper with 6:22 left in the first quarter were the first points ever
scored by a Pub player in a boys' state playoff. Fifty-two seconds into the
game, reaching for a rebound, Bok's David Lorn had inadvertantly deflected the
ball into Phoenixville's basket. Lorn scored no points of his own (0-for-4
floor; no free-throw attempts), but did grab seven rebounds. CLASS AAAA First Round Doubleheader at Wissahickon Plymouth-Whitemarsh 71, Gratz 64: Malik Alvin went
4-for-6 on treys en route to 22 points, but Gratz was doomed by an 11-0
Colonials' run that started the third quarter and made the score 41-27. Syheem
Perkins scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Ameer Ali had nine
points and as many rebounds. Cheltenham 69, University City 51: The Jaguars
struggled throughout. Tim Barlow (13), Ervin Jordan (11) and Anthony Morrison
(10) reached double figures. Doubleheader at Community College of Phila. Central 57, Chambersburg 56: Lamar Williams hit an
18-foot corner jumper with 0:06 remaining and Chambersburg missed a late layup.
Only four Lancers scored and all reached double figures. Scott Rodgers (18) led
the way, followed by Kenny St. George (14), Andre Woodlin (13) and Williams
(12). Frankford 69, Truman 60: Lewis Leonard (12 rebounds)
and Alfred Thomas scored 14 points apiece while Kenny Spotwood mixed 13 points,
10 boards and four assists. Ryan Smith dealt six assists. Second Round At Norristown Plymouth-Whitemarsh 53, Central 51: Thomas Young,
a former Central student, converted a reverse layup off an alley-oop pass with
1.7 seconds remaining, completing a 23-point, 14-rebound showing. Scott Rodgers,
honored by the Markward Club earlier in the day as the city's top senior, led
Central with 25 points, finalizing his career total at 1,259. The Lancers (26-3)
took a 49-46 lead on the strength of a 15-5 run. It was capped by six quick
points from Rodgers (four) and Rashiid Coleman. At Gov. Mifflin Intermediate School, Shillington Whitehall 62, Frankford 40: Only Lewis Leonard
(22) reached double digits for the Pioneers. CLASS AA First Round At Community College of Phila. Prep Charter 49, Mahanoy Area 39: The Huskies won
the third quarter, 15-2, and placed only Rodney Green (15) in double figures. At Upper Moreland Lower Moreland 42, Eng. and Science 37: Only Andre
Murphy (13) scored in double figures for E&S, which trailed by 34-18 after three
quarters. At Hersheypark Arena Milton Hershey 53, Franklin LC 29: Malcolm Eleby
managed to score 11 points for the Bobcats. Second Round At Coatesville York Catholic 45, Prep Charter 43: The Huskies
were eliminated when Garrett Brown, off an offensive rebound, hit a pair of free
throws with 1.6 seconds left. Rodney Green had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three
steals and Markieff Morris grabbed 16 of PC's 45 rebounds. YC had just 15.

North Pre-Playoff Judge 60, North Catholic 48 Damien Palantino (19, 9-for-9 at line) and Mike Briscella (18,
6-for-8 from floor), a pair of lefties, paced the Crusaders to victory before an overflow
crowd at Ryan. Briscella hit three consecutive jumpers (two on passes from Jim Schule) to
expand Judge's lead from 44-41 to 50-41 with 2:08 left. North's Nate Edwards scored 18
points. Quarterfinals Back-to-back doubleheaders at La Salle Univ. Neumann-Goretti 61, Roman 41: Derrick "D.J."
Rivera totaled 25 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals and made two big
plays to create some breathing room after Roman drew within 30-27. He first hit a trey,
then passed to Earl Pettis (19 points, 11 rebounds) for a dunk. Richard Jackson added
eight rebounds, seven blocks. Roman's Mike Ringgold managed 16 points and eight rebounds. SJ Prep 60, West Catholic 47: Reggie Redding scored 11 of
his 19 points in a 14-10 first quarter, then concentrated mostly on rebounds (15) and
assists (four). Joe Fox scored all 12 of his points in the second half. The Prep went
18-for-22 at the line to West's 10-for-23. Derrell Hand (11), a 325-pound Notre Dame
football signee, was the only Burr to score more than six points. He nailed a lengthy trey
at the first quarter buzzer. Dougherty 55, Ryan 47: With four sophomores in their
eight-man rotation, the Cards continued an amazing season largely on the strength of a
23-14 third quarter. Sophs were the three leading scorers as Josh "Scrap" Martin
had 18 points and four steals, Justin Minter shot 7-for-10 at the line en route to 11
points and Roberto Townsend scored 11 points off the bench. Minter added nine rebounds.
Joe Zeglinski (18), Kevin Hudgeons (11) and Tom Manes (10) led Ryan, which eased within
45-44 before fading. Wood 44, Judge 31: After losing every time in its first 11
quarterfinal appearances, Wood finally got to go home happy. Matt Spadafora, the North
MVP, had 13 points while Corey Filer (three steals) and Rob Pearson (three blocks) added
10 apiece and Mike Murnane hit all of his shots for seven. The Vikings closed things out
with a 10-2 run. No one scored more than seven points for Judge, which went 12-for-46 and
3-for-19 on treys. Semifinals Back-to-back nights at La Salle University SJ Prep 63, Dougherty 48: The
overall highlight came with 10 seconds remaining when senior Sean Barker, out of
commission for almost two full years due to a serious knee injury (the first operation
failed; he later needed a meniscus transplant), swished a free throw and drew a wild
response from the players, coaches and fans. Barker and other deep subs got to play
because the starters were dominant, storming to a 35-8 lead on the strength of 14-for-22
shooting (five treys) from the floor. Reggie Redding finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds
and five assists. Frosh Larry Loughery added 13 points and seven boards. Justin Minter
(12, eight rebounds) and Roberto Townsend (10) paced Dougherty. Neumann-Goretti 58, Wood 41: This game was also one-sided
and raised the average victory margin in six regular playoffs (quarters and semis) to
14.3. The Saints swooshed to leads of 10-0, 20-10 and 27-12 (first 12 minutes) against the
first-time semifinalist. David Burton, the lone senior starter, shot 8-for-12 while
scoring 18 points. Antonio "Scoop" Jardine (16) and Derrick "D.J."
Rivera (11) also hit double figures while Earl Pettis dealt six assists and Richard
Jackson had nine rebounds, six blocks. Matt Spadafora (13) made Wood's first shot, a trey.
The next three were blocked by three different players; two were guards. FINAL At La Salle University Neumann-Goretti 57, SJ Prep 44 Before another turnaway crowd of 4,000-plus,
the Saints put four scorers in double figures and maintained safe control through the
second half after intermission ended at 32-24. Earl Pettis, brother of Robert
"Beattie" Taylor, star guard for the 2000 champs, had 15 points, 10 rebounds and
three assists. Two of his feeds produced baskets to begin the second half, as N-G expanded
its pad to 36-24. Antonio "Scoop" Jardine (15), David Burton (12, all in first
half) and Derrick "D.J." Rivera (10) also reached double figures. As the third
quarter wound down, sub Conor Kennedy provided a 10-point lead with a trey and followed by
drawing a charging call, helping Rivera close out the session with a trey for a 46-33
score. Reggie Redding (23) scored 15 of The Prep's first 19 points and claimed five of its
first seven rebounds. Guard-forward Corey O'Rourke went most of the way for the Hawks even
though he'd suffered a broken left (non-shooting) wrist in the semifinal win over
Dougherty. This was the first year for N-G, a combination of Neumann (boys) and Goretti
(girls) in the latter's building.

Inter-Ac League
Episcopal (10-0) Episcopal and Germantown Academy (8-2) were the powerhouses in a
top-heavy league and wound up putting on three great shows, all at neutral sites. EA took
the first meeting, 52-51, before 3,000 at Saint Joseph's University as Wayne Ellington (25
points) canned a layup with 3.2 seconds left. Fellow top-notch junior Gerald Henderson
added eight points, 11 rebounds and four assists. GA trailed, 48-36, with 5:12 left before
rallying mostly on the strength of consecutive treys from Kyle Griffin, Kirk Jones and
Ryan Ayers. The Churchmen finished with two turnovers, and the first did not come until
1:08 remained! Game 2 was played before 2,000 at Arcadia University and EA prevailed,
53-45, as Ellington (12-for-18, 25) and Henderson (9-for-13, 22) did most of the scoring.
Brian Grimes (14) and Ayers (12), a Notre Dame signee, led
GA. The actual title clinching came in Game No. 9, a 64-28 whipping of Haverford School
that was paced by Ellington (26) and Henderson (16). The score in Game No. 3 between EA
and GA, played at Villanova before about 4,000 as the capper for the showcase tourney, was
66-58. Ellington (27) and Henderson (23) again were dominant. Sub Brian FitzPatrick, the
All-City quarterback, received extended playing time due to foul trouble and came up with
two assists and three steals. Two of the steals helped the Churchmen (25-3) extend a 47-44
lead to 50-44. Grimes mixed 25 points and 14 rebounds.
