ROUND OF 16 Franklin LC 75, West Phila. 62 Led by Michael Scott (16-for-17), the Bobcats went 39-for-44 at the
line to win going away. Scott had 21 points, six assists and four steals. Joshua Grier and
Meril Branch added 14 points apiece. West, which had to forfeit a regular season game to
Gratz for using illegal throwback uniforms, received strong efforts from Ricardo Lovelace
(25, 12 rebounds), Chris Williams (20) and Maurice Polen (15 boards). Bartram 79, Lincoln 56 Tywain McKee (26) hit three of his four treys while scoring 11
points in a 25-14 third quarter. Maurice McPherson (18) and Steve Hassell (14) led
Lincoln. Eng. and Science 68, Washington 66 Keshan Myers buried five treys en route to a 37-point outburst and
had 15 points in a 26-11 third quarter. Tramaine Jackson (21) went 13-for-17 at the line.
Tyree Williams grabbed 11 boards. For Washington, which drew close on a last-second trey,
Corey White had 24 points. Gratz 81, Straw. Mansion 63 Mark Tyndale mixed 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while
Tyrone "Tamir" Smith (nine assists) and Matthew Walden (seven blocks) also made
big contributions. Mansion's John Scarbrough had 21 points and 13 boards. Frankford 59, Franklin 56 Six Pioneers scored between six and 14 points as Ryan Smith dished
seven assists. Lewis Leonard (14, eight rebounds) and Malik Dickerson (12, nine) helped
inside. Franklin's Anwar Rascoe had eight points and 15 boards. Germantown 58, Roxborough 55 (OT) The Bears advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since
1983 despite blowing an 11-point, fourth-quarter lead. The only OT points came on Corey
James' trey. Corey Bethea (16) and Ivan Evans (12, nine rebounds) led in scoring. For
Roxborough, Donte Robinson scored 11 of his 20 points in a 24-13 fourth quarter and
Shaheed Rucker forced OT with a steal and free throw. Olney 58, Central 52 Erik "Ugs" Adams pogo-sticked for 26 points, 11 rebounds
and three blocks and scored 11 points in a 21-17 third quarter. Scott Rodgers (19) and
Kenny St. George (18) led Central. Univ. City 62, Southern 55 The Jaguars, the ninth seed from the A-B grouping, stunned the
Division D champ mostly behind the stellar play of Anthony Morrison (28 points, five
treys, 15 boards). Jeffery Andrepoint (14) and Terrence Cutner (13) also scored in double
figures and Aaron Stephens dealt seven assists. Cutner had nine of his points in an 18-6
fourth quarter. Shawn Sabb (14, seven boards) and Antoine "Doo Dirty" Brown (13,
five assists) led Southern. QUARTERFINALS Bartram 66, Franklin LC 59 Tywain McKee contributed 20 points (three treys), 12 rebounds, four
assists and four steals to lead the Braves to the road victory. Maurice Wood (14, 11
boards) and Daziah Miller (11, 14) lent assistance. Justin Lawus came off the bench to
block seven shots. Michael Scott had 23 points and six assists for FLC. Gratz 49, Eng. and Science 31 After spotting the visitors a 16-9 lead after one quarter, the
Bulldogs turned the defensive screws and eased to victory. Mark Tyndale had 23 points, 11
boards and three assists. Matthew Walden (nine) and Jason Hickenbottom (eight) helped on
the glass. Kechan Myers and Tramaine Jackson had 10 points apiece for E&S. Frankford 65, Germantown 54 With Ryan Smith unavailable (ankle injury), Maurice Miller moved
from the wing to the point and came through with 17 points, five assists and three steals.
The Pioneers won the last quarter, 24-11. Malik Dickerson grabbed 13 rebounds and shot
7-for-8 en route to 18 points. Alfred Thomas added 14 points. G-town's leaders were Corey
Bethea (15, 10 boards) and Ivan Evans (11, nine.) Univ. City 57, Olney 47 For the second time in eight years, the Jaguars advanced to the
semifinals by winning a second consecutive road playoff. Only one other team in that span
(Central in '02) matched that feat. Anthony Morrison had 16 points and 11 rebounds while
Aaron Stephens dealt four assists. UC's rotation included no one over 6-2. Despite the
lack of size, the Jaguars attempted just four treys (making none). Olney's Eric
"Ugs" Adams had 12 points and 17 boards. Kevin Presberry nailed three treys en
route to 16 points. SEMIFINALS Same Day At La Salle University Gratz 70, Bartram 67 The Bulldogs blew an 18-point lead in a shade under six minutes --
extending just into the start of the fourth quarter -- but recovered and survived. Mark
Tyndale had 24 points before fouling out with 2:19 left. One other Bulldog and two Braves
fouled out and 46 personals were whistled. Malcolm Welles helped to hold Bartram's chief
scorer, Tywain McKee, to 15 points (two through three quarters) and 3-for-11 shooting on
treys. Jason Hickenbottom (16), Tyrone "Tamir" Smith (13) and Matthew Walden
(10) helped Tyndale. McKee's assistance came largely from Maurice Wood (17, six assists)
and Chris Seaborn (15, eight rebounds). McKee was unable to connect on a 65-foot heave at
the buzzer. Frankford 59, Univ. City 54 This was the first time since 1965 that a semi did not have a
coaches' first team All-Public honoree, and the absence of true headliners was reflected
in some of the stats -- 106 missed shots (74 floor, 32 line), 34 turnovers, 45 personals.
Lewis Leonard had 19 points for Frankford in very strange fashion; 3-for-6 on treys,
2-for-8 on twos, 6-for-14 at the line. Malik Dickerson grabbed 16 rebounds. Maurice
Miller, having just returned from tending to a family crisis in NYC, entered the game in
the second half, wearing a teammate's shorts, and came up with six points, four assists
and two steals. UC's leaders were Antoine Coaxum (21 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, 15
points in fourth quarter) and Aaron Stephens (14, five steals). Coaxum's basket cut the
deficit to 56-54, but on Frankford's attempt at a breakaway, an intentional foul was
called and the Pioneers went 3-for-4 at the line. FINAL At Temple's Liacouras Center Gratz 71, Frankford 53 After going without a field goal in a four-point first half, Mark
Tyndale went crazy and finished with 27 points. He had six in the third and 17 in the
fourth and canned his last eight shots from the floor; most followed hard, athletic moves
to the hoop. He shot 9-for-18 and 9-for-15 while adding eight rebounds. Tyrone
"Tamir" Smith mixed 15 points and five assists while Jason Hickenbottom (12) and
Malcolm Welles (11) also scored in double digits. Maurice Miller, Frankford's only
double-figure scorer, nailed four treys en route to 20 points. The Pioneers eased within
five points at the start of the fourth quarter, then faded.

North Pre-Playoff Wood 70, North Catholic 55 The Vikings stormed to a 21-1 lead while claiming the first
postseason win in the program's 38-year CL history. They'd been 0-10, with all of the
losses in quarterfinals. Matt Spadafora shot 6-for-8 and 8-for-8 for 20 points and grabbed
seven rebounds. Tim Walters added 17 points and nine boards. Mike Piselli (11) and John
Gwiazdowsi provided 19 points off the bench. Freshman Andrew Pomager (17) and Chalie Evans
(14) led North. Evans had missed the last four games of the regular season after suffering
an ankle injury. Quarterfinals Back-to-back doubleheaders at La Salle Univ. La Salle 45, Ryan 43 The Explorers survived despite going roughly 14 minutes without
a field goal. That drought ended when Nick Shattuck hit a shot with 4:48 left in the third
quarter. Shattuck (21) was the only Explorer with more than seven points and his short
bank shot, off an inbound pass from Colin Fitzgerald (five assists), broke a 43-43 tie
with 6.2 seconds remaining. A late trey by star sophomore Joe Zeglinski was a shade off.
With 10, Shattuck had four more rebounds than anyone else in the game. Jim Welsh (13) and
Joe Mullin (11) led Ryan. Dougherty 66, Wood 63 (2 OTs) The Cardinals avoided what likely would have been considered
the second biggest upset in CL playoff history -- behind only the win by North's JV over
McDevitt in 1968 -- when sub Kyle Sample took a pass from Tim Smith (17 points, three
assists) and swished a right-corner trey with 2.1 seconds showing. Smith then batted away
Wood's final inbound pass. Dougherty was just the third team in CL history to go perfect
for two straight seasons and was the area's No. 1-ranked team. Wood entered 0-10 in
regular playoffs and just two nights earlier had finally tasted postseason success,
downing North in a pre-playoff. Dougherty trailed, 54-49, with 35 seconds left in
regulation, but got to OT on a follow by Shane Clark (12 points, 1,009 for career) and a
trey by 6-7 center DeSean White. Wood point guard Matt Spadafora had 16 points and 14
rebounds. Rob Pearson (15), Tim Walters and Brian Klumpp (14 apiece) also scored in double
figures and Klumpp's trey on a pass from Corey Filer created a 63-63 tie with 0:26 showing
in the second OT. Kyle Lowry added 10 points for Dougherty before fouling out with 2:17
left in the first OT. Neumann 57, Roman 47 David Burton scored just six points, but didn't mind thanks to
large contributions in the rebound (15) and blocked shot (six) categories. After two
misses by teammates, sub Derrick "D.J." Rivera (nine points) hustled for a
follow and three-point play with 1:06 left to provide a 50-46 lead. Richard
"Tabby" Cunningham had 16 points, four assists and three steals. Adon El had 11
points and eight boards. Roman franchise Charron Fisher mixed 16 points and nine boards. SJ Prep 70, West Catholic 50: Chris Clark, just 5-8,
contributed 16 points, 11 assists, six steals and even seven rebounds as the Hawks
coasted. Soph Reggie Redding added 15 points, 15 rebounds and three steals. John Griffin
and Mike Kearney (6-for-8) had 13 points apiece. Despite severe foul trouble, West's
Marshall Taylor tallied 19 points, 12 boards, three assists and three steals. Semifinals Back-to-back nights at La Salle University Dougherty 66, Neumann 62 The Cardinals once again flirted with disaster, but managed to
escape. This time they had a 17-point lead after three quarters and saw it dwindle all the
way to two as Neumann frosh Antonio "Scoop" Jardine buried a left-wing trey with
1:10 left. Guard Kyle Lowry had 18 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals and
hit four free throws down the stretch to sandwich a basket by Neumann's David Burton (12
points, 11 rebounds). Dougherty's Shane Clark had 20 points in the first half, then took
just one shot thereafter (25 points). Three of his four blocks came in the last 90
seconds. DeSean White had 14 points and seven boards before fouling out with 4:10 left.
Neumann's Richard "Tabby" Cunningham had 10 points (957 career) and six assists.
There were 47 fouls and 63 free throws. SJ Prep 59, La Salle 52 The Explorers had to go without their franchise forward, Nick
Shattuck, who suffered an ankle injury in practice the day before. They jumped to a 7-0
lead and remained in serious contention into the third quarter. Reggie Redding (16), Mike
Kearney (season-high 15) and John Griffin (12) led The Prep; Redding added nine rebounds,
four assists and three steals. Chris Clark had four assists and no turnovers. Ryan Kirk
(17) and Colin Fitzgerald (11) topped La Salle. FINAL At La Salle University SJ Prep 84, Dougherty 61 Again the arena was packed beyond belief,
again many were turned away, and again The Prep knocked off a team considered to have more
talent. The Hawks' guards, wing John Griffin (27) and point Chris Clark (25), combined to
shoot 15-for-21 (floor), 5-for-7 (treys) and 17-for-18 (line) while pacing overall
performances, same order, of 27-for-44, 7-for-12 and 23-for-29. The Prep, which made 17 of
its first 24 shots, closed out the first half with a 9-0 run to take a 30-22 lead. It
began the second half with a 14-7 run, then dominated from there. Reggie Redding (16) and
Mike Kearney (10) also scored in double figures. Clark (five) and Griffin, a Bucknell
signee, combined for nine assists. Coach William "Speedy" Morris lifted his CL
title total to eight. Tim Smith (16), DeSean White and Shane Clark (14 apiece) led
Dougherty. White (Providence), Clark and Kyle Lowry (both Villanova) were committed to D-I
programs.

Penn Charter (10-0) Once again the Quakers clinched the title in Game No. 9 on the
road. The victim this time was Malvern by a score of 69-49. Rob Kurz, a Notre Dame signee,
contributed 25 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Sean Singletary, a Virginia signee,
mixed 14 points, five assists and four steals. Zack Zeglinski added 15 points and with
Singletary helped to hold Malvern franchise Brian Grandieri to 3-for-14 from the floor (14
points). PC won its last game, 79-62 over Episcopal, as Singletary (30) and Kurz (28) went
wild. The back-to-back perfect league seasons were PC's first since 1963 and '64. It was
the fifth consecutive season in which the champ posted a perfect record. That had happened
only once before (1939-43) in the league's 81-season history. The Quakers again capped
their season by besting Episcopal and GA in the showcase tournament.
