Reggie Faison scored 23 points and received help from Vic Alexander (12,
16 rebounds). Northeast’s Ken Nelson had 17 points, 12 rebounds.
Southern 72, Germantown 68
Kevin Williams shot 7-for-8 for 17 points and Bernard Witherspoon (seven
assists) hit five free throws in the last 2:00. G-town’s James “Herb”
Forrest had 26 points, 10 rebounds.
Frankford 53, Mastbaum 52
Sophomore Rico Washington generated 25 points and 11 rebounds as the
Pioneers won a playoff for the first time since 1949. After Washington missed a free throw
with 0:04 left, Ralph Lewis outbattled a Mastbaum player for the ball and rattled in a
12-foot, left-baseline jumper to win it. Mastbaum playmaker Timmy Brown fouled out with
2:07 left in the third quarter, though coach Ralph “Bones” Schneider did not
know it until he tried to put Brown back in the game with 6:12 left. Mastbaum’s
Ernell Harley had 17 points.
King 62, West 60 (ot)
Kevin Johnston (13 points) stuck a 15-foot jumper with 0:01 left to win
it. Greg Overton had 16 points, six assists. West overcame a 15-point deficit in the
fourth quarter to force OT. Derrick Williams (15) and sub Claude Hughes (13) led the way.

Franklin 61, Southern 58
Vic Alexander and Reggie Faison had 16 points apiece and Keith Walker
chipped in with 13 points, 12 rebounds. Southern’s Andy Jones had 14 points while
Mike Richmond mixed 12 points, 11 boards.
Frankford 72, King 66
Ralph Lewis stepped forward for 17 points and 17 rebounds and was
sandwiched by Anthony Chennault (18) and Rico Washington (16) as Frankford advanced to the
final for the first time since 1949. King’s Dwight Dunbar shot 11-for-15 for 22
points.

Franklin 84, Frankford 71
Reggie Faison (29) and Keith Walker (20) led the scoring and Vic Alexander
mixed 15 points and 18 rebounds as Franklin won its first championship since 1952 and
became the first North Philly winner since Edison in 1969. For Frankford, Anthony
Chennault scored 31 points and had 10 rebounds.

with 0:03 left as the Bulldogs earned a trip to the playoffs for the first time since
1960. Jim Seaman scored 11 points while Van Horn and Tom Jones split eight assists. Bonner’s
Rich Hopkins had 10 points and nine rebounds. North Semifinals Doubleheader at the Palestra La Salle 41, Kenrick 39 (ot) Chris O’Brien drained an 8-foot jumper at 0:03 and Kenrick’s Mike
Lowry could only hit the rim on a 30-footer. Chip Greenberg had 10 points, five assists.
Kenrick’s Jim McLaughlin had 10 points. Judge 64, Wood 47 Mark Singer (12 rebounds) and John Luciano scored 17 points apiece. Jack Walsh
(24) led Wood. South Semifinals Doubleheader at the Palestra St. James 58, Roman 56 (ot) In the greatest upset record-wise in CL playoff history, the 7-7 Bulldogs, who
needed to win a preplayoff just to join the party, stunned 14-0 Roman as Nate Hall collected
15 points and 10 rebounds, John McHugh added 10 points and eight boards and Paul Van Horn,
accustomed to shooting less than 50 percent, went 6-for-8 at the line and dished five
assists. St. James had lost 29 in a row to Roman. Tom Jones blocked Roman’s last shot
in regulation. Hall’s one-and-one conversion with 0:10 left in OT provided a 58-54
lead. Roman’s Glenn Welton scored 20 points. West 65, SJ Prep 45 John Rousey was special with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists and
Anthony Murphy had 10 points, seven boards. Keith Coleman (15) led The Prep. Semifinals Doubleheader at the Palestra La Salle 52, Judge 47 Chip Greenberg mixed 18 points, six rebounds and three assists and sub Dave
Powell had nine points, five boards. Mark Singer (16) paced Judge. West 41, St. James 39 Anthony Murphy scored just six points, but added 12 rebounds and seven blocks.
Curtis Emery had 10 points, nine rebounds. St. James missed two shots on its final
possession while trying to tie and shot 1-for-6 from the line in the fourth quarter. FINAL At the Palestra La Salle 40, West 38 While facing a triangle-and-two — on Chip Greenberg (14) and Chris O'Brien
— for the first time all season, La Salle scored just four second-half field goals
but managed to capture its first title since 1963. Mark Mischler had 10 points and eight
rebounds and Mike Flanigan hit two free throws for a 40-36 lead with 0:21 left. West's
Anthony Murphy had 13 points, eight boards.
