cap a 30-0 season, finalize the record during the Banks Era at 79-2 and extend a winning streak to 43 games. At the end of
the game, Banks tossed four, long-stemmed roses (three red, one yellow) into the stands. Clarence "Eggy"
Tillman added 12 points and 14 rebounds. For Judge, Tom "Mo" Greenfield had 11 points and 12 boards.

Kevin Broadnax (20) and Carl “Muscle Face” Ford (19) led in
scoring and Gary Spencer had 15 points, 12 rebounds. Calvin Dixon (16) led Central.
QUARTERFINALS West 83, Mastbaum 59
Gene Banks shot 11-for-15 en route to 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
Clarence “Eggy” Tillman added 21 points. For Mastbaum, making its first playoff
appearance in 32 seasons of PL membership, Neal Robinson totaled 18 points, 11 rebounds.
Olney 59, King 57
Tim McAliley (27) shot 11-for-19 and James Brooks scored the winning
basket with 0:04 left on a backdoor pass from Mark Hopkins (nine blocks). Kevin “Show
Biz” Andrews (19) and Aaron Bing (18) paced King.
Overbrook 71, Dobbins 62
Lewis Lloyd had 22 points and 20 rebounds and Carl Lacy scored 19 points.
Soph Ricky Tucker had 12 points, six assists. Jerome “J.P.” Peterson led Dobbins
with 20 points, 17 boards.
Southern 77, Frankford 76 (ot)
Gary Spencer had 29 points and 19 rebounds and Southern received its final
four points from subs — John Tart’s follow and Jim Smith’s free throws.
Jeffery “Monk” Clark (37) and Claude Gross (21) led Frankford.

Gene Banks exploded for 32 points (16-for-25) and 26 rebounds. Darryl
“City Lights” Warwick (15) and Clarence “Eggy” Tillman (13) also
scored in double figures. James Brooks (10 points, 10 rebounds) was best for Olney.
At Lincoln
Overbrook 77, Southern 66
Lewis Lloyd shot 14-for-19 and 9-for-11 for 37 points and claimed 17
rebounds. Carlton “C-9” Willis added 17 points, nine rebounds. Gary Spencer (24)
and Steve Mays (17) topped Southern.

West 61, Overbrook 51
With All-America Gene Banks watching from the bench (he was suspended for
violating team rules), Clarence "Eggy" Tillman had 24 points and 12 rebounds
before a turnaway crowd (8,000-plus). Mike Powell, who started in Banks's place, had 13
points. The Speedboys finished the season at 30-0 and were 79-2 in Banks's 3-year varsity
career. Overbrook's Lewis Lloyd had 19 points and 13 rebounds.

and Tom ‘‘Mo’’ Greenfield had 11 points, nine boards. Paul Hanks (20,
12 rebounds) and Bernie Lajeunesse (16, 11) led Wood. Dougherty 49, North 47 Steve ‘‘Fearless Fly’’ Pearson shot 7-for-10 for 14 points
and drained a running 20-footer with 0:01 left to win it. It was the third time in seven
years that Dougherty entered the playoffs as the fourth-place team and knocked off the
division champ. Kevin Van Osten had 12 points and six assists and Jim Dorsey grabbed 11
rebounds. North’s Joe Schoen had 18 points and 22 rebounds. South Semifinals Doubleheader at the Palestra Bonner 40, Roman 38 Kevin McCormick scored 16 points while Tim Vanderslice and Pat Concannon canned
layups after Roman drew within 35-33 with 2:58 left. Mark Dugan (13) paced Roman. Carroll 65, SJ Prep 56 Kevin ‘‘Butch’’ Lynam shot 9-for-13 and 5-for-6 for 23
points while Mike Brophy shot 6-for-8 and 7-for-7 for 19 points. Edgar Carlis took eight
rebounds. The Prep’s Chris Foy had 26 points, 11 boards. Semifinals Doubleheader at the Palestra Judge 55, Dougherty 46 Tom ‘‘Mo’’ Greenfield grabbed 12 rebounds and shot
11-for-12 from the line en route to 21 points. The Crusaders hit 10 consecutive shots from
the floor spanning the third and fourth quarters. Ed Costello had 14 points. Dougherty’s
Jim Dorsey had 16 points, eight rebounds. Carroll 72, Bonner 49 Edgar Carlis shot 7-for-8 for 17 points and plucked 10 rebounds for Carroll,
which scored the first 11 points of the second quarter. Greg Webster had 18 points, three
assists. Frank Nunan (14) led Bonner. FINAL At the Palestra Judge 56, Carroll 53 Frank Ciurlino shot 10-for-14 and 4-for-5 for a season-high 24 points and
notched the Crusaders' final six points on two baskets and two clinching free throws with
0:09 left. Bob Convey added 12 points and four assists and Tom "Mo" Greenfield
had 10 points. Kevin "Butch" Lynam (16) and Greg Webster (15) paced Carroll.

The Friars won on the final day of the season as Pat Purcell’s 22
points -- 14 in the first quarter -- paced a 53-46 verdict over visiting Chestnut Hill.
Gordy Bryan added 13 points. In Game No. 8, Malvern had claimed a one-game lead by downing
host Haverford School (the runner-up at 8-2), 54-48, as Bryan scored 12 of his 22 points
in the fourth quarter. The Friars trailed by nine, 45-36, with 6:16 left.
