two of his 16 points on an 85-foot bank shot as the third quarter ended. Jerry Thomas
added 15 points, 15 rebounds. McCarter played tough defense on Bartram’s Joe “Jelly
Bean” Bryant (nine points, 16 rebounds).

West 94, Olney 75
Mike Stokes (23), Earl Bundy (22), Tom Hooks (20), Jan Pearson (16) and
Terry McCarter (11) combined for all but two of the Speedboys’ points. Hooks added 16
rebounds. West coach Joe Goldenberg opted to double-team 6-8 Jim Baker (27) and play
guard/brothers Eddie (20) and Willie Taylor (15) man-to-man, leaving one forward
constantly open.

Andre McCarter had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists as Overbrook won
its sixth title under coach Paul Ward. Jerry Thomas (16 points, nine rebounds), Rich
Laurel (13, seven) and Kevin Washington (16 points) helped out. West's Tom Hooks had 18
points and 16 rebounds.

Bill Magarity totaled 25 points and 17 rebounds and his brother, Mark, a
sophomore, hit a free throw with 0:10 left to win it. The Cardinals (sub Ron Newman 14)
had trailed by four with 1:12 left in the extra session. For Judge, Harry Edwards (13) and
Dennis DeMayo (15 rebounds) led the starters while subs Joe Kerrigan and Tom McLaughlin
scored 12 points apiece.
North 51, Kenrick 46
Soph Barry Brodzinski netted 15 points while Mike Borski mixed 13 points and 14
rebounds. Fran Rafferty (20) led Kenrick.
South Semifinals
Doubleheader at the Palestra
SJ Prep 79, West 52
Bill Truskey combined 21 points with 13 rebounds, Tim Corlies totaled 14 points
and 15 boards and Maurice ‘‘Mo’’ Howard scored nine of his 18 points
in a 22-11 second quarter. Alfie Williams led West with 13 points, 16 boards.
O’Hara 55, Roman 47
Ed Manning shot 10-for-13 and 6-for-7 for 26 points and was hit on his foot by
a flying whiskey bottle thrown from Roman’s stands. Mike Arizin added 15 points and
Mike Sabol sank a 44-foot shot to end the first quarter. Jim ‘‘Chico’’
Singleton (11) led Roman.

Maurice ‘‘Mo’’ Howard collected 27 points and seven assists
while Tim Corlies (16, 16 rebounds) and Bill Truskey (15, 12) were tough inside. Barry
Brodzinski (26) and Joe Wojtiw (20) paced North, which scored three late baskets to draw
close.
O’Hara 47, Dougherty 44
The Lions swept to a 27-15 edge in the final 11 minutes as Mike Arizin (16, 11
rebounds) and Ed Manning (14) led the way with eight points apiece. Sub John DiMarco won a
jump ball after almost getting a steal and passed to Jim McCaffrey for the winning layup.
For Dougherty, Bill Magarity totaled 18 points and 19 rebounds (only five fewer than O’Hara’s
team) and Pete Varanavage scored 16 points.

At the Palestra
SJ Prep 64, O'Hara 58
Maurice "Mo" Howard shot 12-for-18 and 5-for-8 for 29 points — a
CL postseason record — and Bill Truskey mixed 13 points with 12 rebounds as The Prep
prevailed. Two baskets by Howard and another by Truskey allowed the Hawklets to take a
49-46 lead and maintain control from there. Mike Arizin (22) and Ed Manning (17) led
O'Hara.

in 30 points as PC topped Episcopal, 74-57, leaving both teams at 4-2. Tim Knettler (15)
and Tim O’Rourke (14) helped. Pat Tarsi had 17 points for Episcopal. Both teams won
their last four games. In a non-league game, Harris buried Germantown Lutheran Academy
under a 65-point avalanche; it was the most points ever scored by an Inter-Ac player.
Harris set a record for highest league average (28.7 in nine games) and led the state with
a 33-point overall average.
