Dougherty saw its hopes of a 25-0 season dashed as Lou Gambrell shot 13-for-22 for 26
points, Charlie Orme added 16 points and Bob Reid and Leroy Lark claimed 14 and 13 rebounds, respectively. Bill Nelson
became the first man to play in the City Title game for a champion (Bartram '44) and then produce a champion as a coach. For
Dougherty, Mike Kempski scored 18 points while Earl Williams (14, 13 rebounds) and Maurice Savage (13, 15) were
productive in two categories.

FIRST ROUND At Frankford Lincoln 81, Franklin 71 Larry Cannon netted 34 points while George May contributed 22 points and
15 rebounds and Dave Scheinfeld grabbed 16 boards. Fred Ruben (17) led Franklin. At Franklin Central 71, West 57 Joe Heiser scored nine of his 27 points in a 19-9 second quarter. Dave Van
Horn and Bob Gelman added 15 points apiece. Elijah Small (13) topped West. SEMIFINALS Doubleheader at the Palestra Germantown 60, Central 56 Bob Reid (18 points) and Lou Gambrell (15) combined for 13 of
G-town’s 17 fourth-quarter points. Bob Gelman (24) led Central. Bartram 81, Lincoln 66 Richard “Toby” Tyler and Clarence Brookins scored 20 points
apiece and combined for 31 rebounds. Brookins (16-for-19) helped Bartram go 35-for-47 at
the line. George May (24) and Dave Scheinfeld (17) topped Lincoln, which lost four players
on fouls. FINAL At Lincoln Germantown 67, Bartram 65 Jim Butler, who shot just 2-for-13 from the floor, gave Germantown its first
title in 48 years of PL membership by making an under-and-up layup with 0:02 remaining.
Bob Reid totaled 19 points, 23 rebounds. Leroy Lark added 17 points, 19 rebounds.
Germantown overcame 29-for-96 shooting by winning the rebound battle, 75-56. For Bartram,
Richard "Toby" Tyler (20) scored six straight points to force a 65-65 tie with
0:43 left. Bobby Lewis added 14 points.

The Cardinals ran their record to 23-0 while dominating the rebound battle,
51-29, and receiving 24 points from Mike Kempski. Six-nine Maurice Savage and Gerry
McKendry added 15 points apiece. Frank Guerin (20), Joe Lindsay (14), Norm Kropp and Frank
Connell (13 each) led Bonner.
Egan 59, Neumann 47
Egan, a first-year CL member, registered the upset despite having no starter
taller than 6-1. Chris Cosmas and Dave Frederick split 40 points and Bill Creeden claimed
18 rebounds. The Eagles rang up a 59-39 lead before Neumann scored the final eight points
against reserves. Frank Gillen and Jim Stinger split 22 points.

Dougherty 69, Egan 59
Phil Serianni scored 17 points, Maurice Savage mixed 16 points and 13 rebounds
and Gerry McKendry managed 15 points as the Cardinals triumphed before 8,805. Dougherty
alone sold 4,800 tickets. Dave Frederick (22) and Chris Cosmas (10-for-15, 21) led the
Eagles.
