Tommy More. Burton added 11 rebounds. With 0:21 left, Zell converted a one-and-one to provide a 50-48 lead and White
hit one free throw at 0:06 after making a steal. Bartram's Willie Mobley (14) canned an uncontested layup at the buzzer.
Teammate Boyd O'Neal had 13 points and 20 rebounds. Bartram's Bob Lohse, a sub for West Catholic in '59, became the first
player to represent two schools in City Title games. More coach Jim Purcell played for the Golden Bears in '51, but did not see
action in the City Title game.

SEMIFINALS Doubleheader at the Palestra Bartram 55, Gratz 49 Chris Kefalos had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Boyd O’Neal mixed
15 points and 32 rebounds. Gratz’s Ted Blunt scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth
quarter. Franklin 51, West 45 Austin Garner (24 points) hit four consecutive free throws to start the
fourth quarter and put Franklin ahead for good. Six-nine Stoney McMorris, nicknamed
“The Franklin Flamingo,” grabbed 13 rebounds. Deforia Coleman (14) led West. FINAL At The Palestra Bartram 61, Franklin 57 (ot) Outfighting 6-9 Stoney McMorris, Willie Mobley leaped to grab an air ball and
posted a three-point play to give Bartram the lead for good, 58-57. Earl Monroe scored
Bartram's previous field goal. Boyd O'Neal had 19 points, 10 rebounds. Bob Lohse, a member
of West Catholic's 1959 Catholic League champs, became the first player in city history to
play for titlists in both leagues. For Franklin, Austin Garner shot 11-for-25 for 25
points and hit a 25-foot jumper with 0:01 left in regulation to create a 53-53 tie.
McMorris had 10 points, 20 rebounds.

free throws put More ahead for good, 46-45, with 2:11 left. For Dougherty, Ed Hockenbury
(18) and Vince Richardson (15) scored in double figures. Joe White failed to connect on a
last-shot jumper.

problems), Samuel "Duke" Taylor came out of retirement and captured a 16th
championship (12 outright, four shared) in his 24th season. However, the final day was a
downer as host Malvern used a 39-27 second half to dump PC, 61-52, and create the tie.
Henry "Buzzy" Dugan had 10 of his 15 points in a 26-15 third quarter. Tom Kelly
added 14 points. PC soph Bill Soens scored 20 points.
