the first suburban team to capture the City Title. Charles "Bud" O'Donnell (13) and Bob DeFino (12, 13
rebounds) also hit double figures in points. Ernest "Sonny" Jackson topped West with 17 points. The Speedboys entered the game 24-0.

SEMIFINALS Doubleheader at the Palestra West 56, Bartram 54 (3 ot) The teams scored two points each in a regulation OT and then went
scoreless through a sudden-death OT. Finally, four seconds into a second sudden-death OT,
sub Bill Daisey, a 5-8, 128-pound junior, was hacked while driving in for a layup attempt.
He made two free throws to give West the necessary two points and the win. Asked about the
free throws, Daisey said, “I was afraid to miss ‘em.” Ernest
“Sonny” Jackson scored 17 points. For Bartram, which trailed, 46-37, after three
quarters, Richie Moore scored 15 points. Overbrook 72, Northeast 57 Walt Hazzard (27), Wali Jones (18) and 5-5 Rick Beckett (15) led
’Brook, which stormed to a 41-20 halftime lead. Howie Turnoff scored 26 for
Northeast. FINAL At the Palestra West 53, Overbrook 43 Ernest "Sonny" Jackson scored 17 points as West raised its record to
24-0. Jim English added 12 points. Overbrook's Walt Hazzard scored 10 of his 24 points in
the second quarter. West led by at least 10 points throughout the fourth quarter.

Frank Corace scored 18 points for the Friars, who piled up a 42-29 lead after
three quarters. Bob DeFino (14) and Paul Gallagher (12) helped. Bob Harrington and Cy
Cosgrove scored 12 apiece for Dougherty.
St. James 56, Judge 47
Don DiJulia scored 19 points while Steve Courtin (10-for-11) and Andy Pinter
(9-for-11) used strong foul-shooting to add 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Bulldogs,
who went ahead for good, 44-42, on Courtin’s basket, shot 26-for-29 at the line
overall and 17-for-18 in the final quarter. SJ played without rebounder Bill Donahue,
injured in a sledding accident. George Sutor (19) and John Monahan (17) paced Judge.
